Boost Post or use Facebook Power Editor

As you know there are two ways to promote your content on Facebook:

  • Boost a Post
  • Create Ads via Power Editor or Ads Manager

Boost a post is very easy and you can do it in less than 1 minute. You have a simple screen and don’t need to handle many options. I have a good friend and as a small business owner he is very thankful for this possibility. He can create Ads very easy and doesn’t need to understand how PE or Ads Manager work! He doesn’t have much time and can’t pay an agency for that. He needs a quick and cheap solution. The Boost Option is perfect for him and there are many like him!

Now let us see what is possible if you want to boost a post…

Facebook offers some good possibilities to target your audience through the Boost Post option!
Fans and their friends or just choose people by own criteria:

  • Location
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Interests

Set a budget

Duration: 1 – 7 days

Ad Accounts and payment methods

For many businesses are these criteria enough to reach the right audience. The only problem is, you can’t organize your Ads in campaigns or groups (Ad Set) like in Power Editor. If you want to have more control over your campaigns or even use more targeting options, you’ll need more than what you can do with boosting.

In Power Editor you have by far much more possibilities. If you have never worked with PE, you should visit this page A Beginner’s Guide to the New Facebook Power Editor here you can see how to work with PE, set up Campaigns, Ads and many more.

I’ll just focus on what you can do more and better in PE.

You can choose what kind of Ads you want to create by selecting the right objective:

Following you can see, that you have much more targeting options in PE in addition to Interests:

One thing you “always” can do is, to edit the budget and duration of your Ads no matter how you have created them. You can go the long way over Power Editor or just edit them directly in Ads Manager:

Now the big question: Boost Post or use Facebook Power Editor

It depends on what you want to do! I wouldn’t recommend only one way! If you want to promote a special offer and the boost options are enough for you, then hit the boost button! Saves you time and you’ll get what you want. if you want to create different types of Ads with more targeting options and you would like to organize them, then you will need Power Editor.
